The Skin-care Scam
Forget glass-skin. Do what actually matters.
I’ve been obsessed with skincare for as long as I can remember. Recently I jumped on the product-based skin-care bandwagon expecting miraculous glass-skin results.
Spoiler Alert, I’ve never had worse skin in my life.
My mother was the original skincare queen — she was an expert in all this before the internet. Her method was simple: grape juice for brightening, tomato pulp for exfoliation, milk-cream and coconut oil for moisture. No preservatives, no fancy serums, just things from the kitchen. It always worked.
I followed in her footsteps until I got sucked into the world of products — it was hard to resist the science-y words and I’m paying in more than one ways.
The beginning of the AHA/BHA Disaster
It started when I first heard about AHA and BHA. Reddit swore by Chemical exfoliation. “It’ll give you glass skin,” “It’ll unclog your pores, fade dark spots, change your life”.
Umm, okay. Maybe what got me here won’t take me further? Maybe I need more?
