Dasara Review: A Confused Plot Working Desperately to Make Nani a Mainstream Star
Is it about a bar? politics? cricket match? love? friendship? Revenge?
Dasara came into theatres this year on the 30th of March. It performed reasonably well at the box office, now already set for streaming on Netflix. I had the chance to watch this movie after a month of its release on the big screen. Was it worth it?
Dasara opened with captivating camera work that fully had my attention. The village scene, the “really local” feeling through music, accents, costumes, styling — all very convincing.
Great actors wasted on a terrible plot.
What stands out most in the movie is the cast. They rest more on their acting credentials than stardom.
Nani, Keerti Suresh, Samudrakani, Shine, and Sai Kumar, to name a few — are well-chosen for their roles and deliver great performances.
Unfortunately, except for Nani, the rest have no roles and character development whatsoever. Great entrance scenes for each of these actors fizzle out as soon as they appear. Their plot lines are carefully written until the interval, only to disappear without explanation.
